Description

Soviet Naval Flag of the Supreme Commander (Commander in Chief) of the Soviet Navy, dated 1978.
This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL FLAG made in the Soviet Union with the sole purpose to use on a Soviet naval vessel – this flag is not a civilian issue, souvenir or replica!
Made in synthetic silk (the kind used for naval reviews), VERY LARGE SIZE: measures 78" x 52" (about 6 ½ x 4 1/3 feet.)  This uncommon flag is similar to a regular Soviet naval ensign but instead of hammer & sickle emblem and star it has the national emblem of the USSR. When raised on the mainmast of a naval ship, it designated that the Supreme Commander was onboard. Its huge size makes it appropriate for one of the large warships in Soviet naval inventory, perhaps a larger destroyer or cruiser. The canvas hoist sleeve shows a 1978 date of manufacture and a GOST manufacturing standard code of 1973.
The flag is in SUPERB CONDITION. It is perfectly sound, free of tears or excessive wear, and its colors are strong. It is also completely clean. Overall, this is really as good an example as one may ever hope to find.
This very uncommon Soviet flag was made when the Soviet Navy was on the ascendancy, more than a decade before the collapse of the USSR and the subsequent decline of its fleet. Its size makes it an impressive background for your Soviet collection, sure to attract attention. Unlike the Soviet flags made in wool, there is no need to worry about moth damage. Great Cold War collectible and conversation piece!
