    Description

    Original Broadsword, Composed of ancient parts. Early 16th century Fluted German or Austrian pommel and matching crossguard or quillion. Etched Blade late 16th or very early 17th century. Grip leather replaced in the 19th or early 20th century when the sword was assembled. Wood grip may be replaced. 39 1/2" overall with a 33 1/2" blade. 1 1/2" wide lenticular blade. Nicely Etched with cresent moon, sun , arrows and turks head. Probably Austrian. Well balanced and tight. Purchased from William Fagan in the early 1980's. This was Item #10 from Auction Catalog #48 The description from Fagan is as follows. " A Composite cruciform hand and a half sword. Iron hilt C. 1500 with straight cross guard, each terminal expanded in spiral motif. Matching spirally fluted pommel. Replacement grip. Early 17th century broad double edged blade, attractively etched with sun, moon stars and Blackmoor head. Blade length 33 1/2" with light pitting and some wear to the etched decoration, some medium pitting to the cross guard." Auction estimate 1000-1500. with 10% buyers premium.
