Here is a nice 15th century medieval iron military fork halberd head in good original condition. The iron surface is dark from age which can be seen in the photos. Provenance : it is believed that this rare military fork was used during the siege of Edinburgh castle in the year 1573. Military forks were used to defend castles against attacking enemy soldiers and for pushing ladders off the castle walls. They were also used for defending cannons against cavalry attacks to keep the attacker away at a safe distance but to also cause serious injury. In total measuring 13.4 inches long and 4.4 inches wide. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland from a gentleman's collection. For reference : a similar military fork can be seen in the New York Metropolitan art museum online collection. The two original period medieval manuscript drawings are also for reference.
