SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT:AUTHENTIC OTTOMAN BLACK SEA REGION
LAZ BICHAK or YATAGHAN
18th century
The origin of this unusual and rare sword was in a fierce debates between collectors and researchers of blade weapons. It was attributed to the Caucasus, Kurdistan, North Africa, Turkey, Malaya as well as Egypt and other origins. However, now it is confirmed, that it is coming from North / East Turkey and found in Caucasian areas as well. It is best known as
Black Sea Yataghan
or
Laz Bichaq
. It is characterized by the deeply re-curving blade and bifurcated pommel. The steel blade is decorated with a typical punched dots design and brass strips inlay. The grip is bound with alternate black and green leather strips. The hilt is made from black buffalo horn. Wood scabbard covered with leather strips. A very rare sword.
